Foong Wei Heong - Most Affordable Chinese Restaurant

Foong Wei Heong
If you are local, you will know this place.
With its humble beginnings of 1 shop lot, it has successfully expanded itself to 3 shop lots at Sri Bahari Road, Penang.  Tel - 04 2626918
If you can't find the place, it's diagonally opposite The Ship Restaurant.
With inflation kicking in at rocket speed, this place from Foodie's survey seems like this is the best value for money place for good Chinese food.
The suckling pig is superb and succulent, reasonable charged.
And to save the sharks, we don't order sharks fin soup, we order a Chinese seafood chowder which tastes better than the sharks fin soup :-)
and it is cheaper too ...

This duck dish is a must order.
It first dish comes as crispy skin with pancake wrap.
The the remaining of the duck is used to make mango kerabu which is really refreshing and does not make you feel that you have over eaten too much red meat for the day, although you really have over did it :-p
Talk about cheating lying to yourself.
Vegetables ... the all time favourite '4 kings of vege fried with sambal'

Pork leg, pork knuckle, whatever you call it ... our chinese version is as good as the German ones ...
If you are celebrating a birthday, this is the traditional way of doing it, instead of the usual birthday cake.
This is really nice for a change, what more if you already had so many 'rich' dishes.
Well, if you are at Foong Wei Heong and you have no idea how and what to order,  this is the person you should look out for.
Miss Jenny, a very friendly captain, who will have no problems recommending you something that will suit your taste buds.
Ending with a sweet note, here are some choices of dessert available.
If you are a Chinese food fan, this is a MUST visit restaurant.
You can get good quality and yummy Chinese food without blowing a hole in your pocket.
Happy Eating, Happy Father's Day :-)

Cheap & Good - Authentic Thai Street Food :-)

This is a hidden gem at Prima Tanjung food court.
It has been around for a long time now.
The Thai food is superb and at very reasonable prices
It's like going to mini Hadyai.
Several Thai stalls gives you a good section of what you want to eat.
Just look at the comments here and you will know why ...
Introducing the ever delicious pork knuckle.
Let's just put the diet aside if you really wanna enjoy this one.

Then we have this very unassuming stall.
It is managed by 4 or 5 Thai women who work very harmoniously together even if they are very busy :-)  Always courteous to their customers.
This is the true Thai hospitality that we should learn ...
Reasonable good variety of items you could order.

Basil and Pork rice comes with sunny side up fried egg - my favourite
 Very spicy tomyam
 Kerabu tang hoon
Thai Koay Chap at the opposite stall
You have a choice of pork, chicken or duck meat.

Maggi Mee Tom Yam
Remember Thai Food - Closed on Saturdays

Nice place, good variety, good food and it's very reasonably priced too :-)
If you have not been here for a while, it is time you re-visit this place.

Happy Makan :-p

Superb Chinese Food @ Ming Garden, Times Square

All I can say is a big WOW
When you go to Ming Garden, and I strongly feel you should, you MUST follow the dishes above.
It is not only super delicious but also the presentation of the dishes were excellent.
I would like to apologise for not taking the photos.
When I order the above again, I promise I will take photos of it.
I did not expect it to be so good as this was already the 3rd time going there.
Anyway, just so that you don't go wrong, just order the above list.
You will be utterly satisfied :-)
The following are photos of the set menu that was previously tried.
Nothing spectacular.
Just like the routine many course Chinese food in Penang.

Generally, the food here is pretty ok.
The service is not great.
The hygiene also not great.
But just try the menu above :-p
You will surely agree with me that even though the venue, hygiene and service is not that great, the above menu is just superb and worth you closing a blind eye on the other stuff.

The location is a major set back.
If you do the basement carpark and you have old folks meeting you there, it's not very safe and also they may get lost trying to find their way to the restaurant and then back to the car afterwards.
So it may be a good idea to go with them.
My advice is not to park outside cause it is not very safe.
Other than that the food is worth you giving it a go.
Times Square is just sad, sad, sad ...

This currently the largest Chines restaurant in Penang.
The only one that can accommodate big big weddings ...
