Gangnam BBQ @ Tanjong Tokong
Gangnam Style Korean BBQ Restaurant 28-1-2, Jalan Tanjung Tokong, Penang 04-8997900 N5 26.890 E100 18.300 |
Foodie was invited by a friend to try out a Groupon Deal at this place. So on a Sunday night, we came by for dinner ... Good thing about this place is you can BYO. By the way, Doarae is also BYO :-) So according to the Groupon deal, we called in for booking and was told we could only start at 8pm. Last order was 9pm so it was a real rush. |
Food was ok. Service was BAD. Slow motion workers, dragging their feet, so with only 1 hour to eat as much as we can, it was a real rush |
We had the usual free flow of side dishes. |
All I could say is, it was a rather 'rushed' experience. Never liked eating in a rush, so anytime Doarae beats this place hands down. However, considering the price, this may be one of the strategies. I am not sure, will need to ask other Foodies' experiences here. There is a nice blog written on this place, see link below: http://www.tasteiest.com/2014/04/gangnam-style-korean-bbq-buffet-tanjung-tokong-penang.html |
So sorry not many photos of the hot plate as we were rushing, rushing, rushing ... Ox tongue part of the buffet menu but it was cut very thinly as compared to the one in Doarae. Pretty unfair to compare with Doarai in view of the price range. So, if you want a cheaper version of Korean food in a hurried manner, here you are. |

Foong Wei Heong - Most Affordable Chinese Restaurant
With inflation kicking in at rocket speed, this place from Foodie's survey seems like this is the best value for money place for good Chinese food.
The suckling pig is superb and succulent, reasonable charged.
And to save the sharks, we don't order sharks fin soup, we order a Chinese seafood chowder which tastes better than the sharks fin soup :-)
and it is cheaper too ...
This duck dish is a must order.
It first dish comes as crispy skin with pancake wrap.
The the remaining of the duck is used to make mango kerabu which is really refreshing and does not make you feel that you have over eaten too much red meat for the day, although you really have over did it :-p
Talk about cheating lying to yourself.
Vegetables ... the all time favourite '4 kings of vege fried with sambal'
Pork leg, pork knuckle, whatever you call it ... our chinese version is as good as the German ones ... |
If you are celebrating a birthday, this is the traditional way of doing it, instead of the usual birthday cake. This is really nice for a change, what more if you already had so many 'rich' dishes. |
Well, if you are at Foong Wei Heong and you have no idea how and what to order, this is the person you should look out for.
Miss Jenny, a very friendly captain, who will have no problems recommending you something that will suit your taste buds.
Ending with a sweet note, here are some choices of dessert available.
If you are a Chinese food fan, this is a MUST visit restaurant.
You can get good quality and yummy Chinese food without blowing a hole in your pocket.
Happy Eating, Happy Father's Day :-)
