Authentic Thai @ Tan Jetty

 You just gotta come to this place.

It is authentic Thai, the Penang way.

Why ?

Cause the venue is so uniquely Penang.

I can't even find words to describe it.

Whether you are a tourist or a local, if you have not been here, please go and try it.

The food is good.

The atmosphere and ambience is great.

If your timing is not good, you need to bring 'patience' along cause it may be a long wait.

That said, it's not all bad cause you can soak in the richness and originality of Penang.

Maybe the best time is just before sunset, sometimes you may bump into couples taking their wedding photos during this time, also if you are the early bird, the wait is not that long.

 So, what's good here ?

They serve laksa for lunch.

It's rather authentic Thai cause the chefs are Thai.

Most things here are nice and reasonably priced.

 These deep fried mushrooms and chili sauce goes superbly well with beer.

 Fish of the day is fresh and it comes with a little bit of extra gravy.

Everything is spicy :-)

 Seating on stilts.

How can you beat that ?

Watching the sun set in front of your eyes.

Good company

Good food

Good drinks

Good ambience

Penang indeed has it all ...

 And this is the thing I always say about Penang.

Penang is so 'real', all this heritage is not a show.

It is real life, everyday life intertwined with heritage.

In the midst of your meal, you have this playful little boy, not wearing any shorts, running around and having a good time fooling with his brother.

Corridor Asam Laksa - No More

It's nice to see people becoming better and better at what they do :-)
Thus, I  have changed the title "Corridor Asam Laksa" and added No More behind it.
Now it is Phaik Laksa
Cause Aunty Phaik has moved into the shop next to where she was selling ie by the corridor.
And as you have noticed she even has her own newspaper article write up.
Since the write up, business has increased tremendously.

So, now you can seat in comfort instead of by the scorching sun.

 There are a few changes in prices though.
Understandably cause rental is needed.
So everything has increased by 50 cents.

A little something to note ... Aunty Phaik is also Environment Friendly
If you want to buy the jelly ice back, bring your own container, she will charge you 30 cents less.
ok usual price of RM 3.00 but if you use her plastic container it's RM 3.30
:-)
You also have option to add fish.
And if you want more soup, you will need to pay.

 I bet you have never heard of this one.
Located at the junction of Jalan Krian and Jalan Seang Tek it is literally set up at the corridor.
Landmarks around it will be the Anson Road market or the 8th Row shops right at the end.
Solo stall here makes it unique.
However, on a hot sunny day, if you can't bear the weather, forget about having a bowl of hot asam laksa, you will be soaked in your own sweat.

Laksa here is nice, you can opt for small RM 3.00 or large RM 3.50.
This one is unique cause you have an option of side dish - yam rice and also opt to add a prawn cracker.
First time trying laksa with yam rice, surprisingly, taste quite good.

You can tell that the soup is good, all gone!

No Kopi O here
But they serve a really nice a refreshing dessert here, very relevant for a stall by the road with such hot weather.

For RM 2.50 you have nata, longan, lychee, jelly and  a quarter of a lemon .
The lemon really pulls the whole thing together.
Very nice, you must try this one ...

This is literally corridor laksa.
I don't mind sitting anywhere for good food though ...

On a public holiday, not having anywhere to go, we decided to visit Balik Pulau as our support for cuti-cuti Malaysia.  Indeed we made the right choice, once we ventured onto the road and realised that there was no jam.  Excellent.  Skipped breakfast, on arrival at 11 am, it was brunch time.  We decided to go straight to the Balik Pulau Food Court in order to accomplish the list of street food we planned to conquer ....

Started off with the Laksa RM3.00
Order the regular and add 50cents veg - makes it RM 3.50
Ever eaten laksa with fish roe ?
I was pleasantly surprised by the roe and also the chunky fish

Talk about monopoly, there are 2 laksa stalls at the food court.
Both by the same owner, early morning they start at Stall No. 37
Late morning till lunch they move to Stall No. 26
They claim that they are the same as the one at the junction, Nan Guang Kopitiam

I am getting confused now, which one to go to.
But I have a gut feeling that they all taste about the same, being from the same are.
Most likely all of them will get a 5 star rating from me.
If you are a Laksa person, please try every stall and tell me which is the best.

The fishball is super crunchy, so if you have already eaten 2 bowls of laksa and still want to try it, don't bother with the carbs - just order 1 bowl of fish ball 10 pieces for RM2.70

Foodie's Choice
Food court so you can have more variety
Skip the coffee, go for nutmeg sour plum
Laksa and Pasembur is a MUST
Fish ball only if you can't eat anymore!

Please leave some space for the Pasembur Balik Pulau

I suggest you go there around brunch time, take your own sweet time with the laksa and koay teow thing and around 1130am when the Pasembur opens, attack it.
One of the best I have ever had, just check out the crowd.

Well, after everyone is full and satisfied, go for a car ride to Pulau Betong and along Jalan Tun Sardon.
Nice car ride with beautiful scenery and paddy fields.
You don't even feel like you are in Penang, but you are ...
that is the beauty of our island :-)
We were lucky to have an avid cyclist taking us round these beautiful scenes.
Also we were in a car not on a bicycle with all the Laksa in our stomach.
Was a very good day outing.
