Still in the mood for Chinese food ? How about May Garden ?

If you are an old timer, you will remember the best suckling pig is from May Garden.
Not sure if this has changed.
But if you are looking for a good suckling pig meal, this place will never let you down.

Here is also one of the rare restaurants in Penang which serves roast on a normal day.
And they do it pretty well too.

Tried this menu sometime back ...
Nothing to complain.
Plenty for everyone.
Again with festive season now, advance booking necessary.
Prices may have gone up though.

Happy Chap Goh Meh !!!

Foodie's Best - Most Creative and Unique - Old House Restaurant

Ever been to a restaurant where you do not need to decide what to order?
Well this was a first for Foodie :-)
You just walk in a let them know how many people having the meal.
So, why don't you need to decide on what you are having ...
Here is why ...

The boss, Mr Tan, is also the boss of Bee Chin Heang.
His passion of cooking has inspired him to open this unique place.
He does the marketing every morning and picks the fresh ingredients from the market.
The 'menu' therefore, is based on what is fresh from the market on that day.

So, you just walk in and wait for your surprise :-)
Best thing is you know whatever being served is fresh.

For those who have more to splurge, you can make reservations (minimum 6 pax) to try the more expensive cuisines like braised abalone, scallops, lobster dishes etc etc
Menu with prices depending on choices is available.
Decor inside is rather haphazard with loads of Chinese antiques, ambience is quite nice.
Really is very unique, you will never see another similar place like that in Penang.
So this is a MUST visit !

Dish of the day when Foodie went was, roast pork, char siew and roast duck platter ...

... pork lard (bak eow por) fried with beans ...
health freaks may not like this, check out the oil ... but its ok, only once in a blue moon ...

... steam fish ... really nice simple and fresh ...
So, the meal always comes with 3 dishes + 1 soup + 1 drink + 1 huge bowl of white rice.
Portions are generous.
For lunch is RM 13.80 per pax no service charge, no tax
For such fresh food, generous portion, and a surprise ...
Foodie feels it is all well worth it :-p

Hill Park Roast Chicken Rice, Anybody ?

If you live at around Tanjung Bungah and you run out of lunch venues on a weekend, and you don't feel like going out or you are recovering from a Friday hangover, here is the place to 'ta pao' your comfort food.
Hill Park roasted chicken rice is situated at Jalan Lembah Permai, run by a female mummy, weekends, you can see her children helping her out.

So, what are the specialties here ...
Roast Chicken
Roast Pork
Tau Kua in Soya Sauce (must order)
Spare parts - chicken gizzard and heart
Soup of the day (on the house)
 Reasonably priced
Best part is lady boss, although busy is very friendly and accommodating, so you can request for the lean part of the roast pork, request for soup, gravy etc etc etc ...
At 1pm, it gets super busy, by 1:30pm everything is gone, so best time to go is just before 12 noon

All types of combination is possible, chicken with roast pork with gizzard with heart with tau kuah bla bla bla

If you happen to be in Tanjung Bungah for lunch or brunch ... try this venue
It has surely earned its place on the "Cheap & Good" list :-)

Best Roast Pork In Town - Turkey Time of Roast Pork Time

5 star Rating Roast Pork !
Words can not describe this, you need to experience it !
Portion for Foodie @ RM 8.00 you get to have the best treat in the world, if you are a pork lover
Roast pork sold in the market.
No place for you to sit.
Best is to buy whatever you feel you can finish and eat it immediately when you get home. Goes very well with beer or Chinese tea or red wine, whichever your preference.
Tastes delicious with mustard.
Mixture of char siu and siu bak
Crispy roast pork skin with half fat and half skinny char siew
This is what I call Double Happiness !

Goes pretty well with whole grain French mustard

A tip I just discovered - you do not need to buy the French mustard like the one above, Tesco is selling whole grain French mustard for only RM 4.55 and it tastes the same.

Remember, there are 3 stalls here - all selling roast pork.
You must go to the 3rd stall, I repeat the 3rd stall.
Buy from the lady above.
If you are not sure, ask her if her name is Ah Luan.
Her stall is the 3rd stall, nearest to the vegetable stalls of the market .

Foodie's Choice - Not too fat, not too skinny
Buy back, eat immediately, don't wait too long, never reheat
Enjoy with a can of Budweiser

I don't know about you, but as for me, during this merry time, Roast Pork beats Turkey hands down !
Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year !
