Penang Street Painting & Wire Art Cycling Excursion

This post is a special edition dedicated to Penang.
Every tourist, local or foreign should have a go at this one.
It is really well worth you time.
Nice street art to watch.
Have to give credit to this idea of making the 'old town' more lively on Sunday.
Foodie's suggestion - start early and have plenty of coffee stops.
Ok maybe eating stops.
Ha ha ...

For more photos ... click here ...

So, all Foodie excursions must involve food.
Before kicking off ... we had Hokkien Prawn Mee at Armenian Street ...
This is supposed a popular venue for Hokkien Mee ... home made ...
Found it rather ordinary, nothing special ... but good enough to fill the stomach for an exciting long day :-)
Kopi O was also Ok

Here they also serve pao and nasi lemak.
All at a very reasonable price.

After breakfast, you can pay a visit opposite.
An artistic temple right at the junction of Armenian Street.
Keep a look out for all the activities they are having at this part of town.

So as we cycle along the streets of the old town, we got a little hungry and decided to stop for a 2nd breakfast and also have a Kopi O boost.
This newly opened cafe - Big Ben Georgetown @ Bishop Street, serves local coffee with simple breakfast.
The Big Ben set was pretty ok.
Sorry I forgot to take a photo of the big breakfast cause it was too ordinary and by the time I remember only the baked beans left on the place ...
Wakakakaka ....
Still new though ... so we are waiting for more things that they can offer...

After a little bit more of cycling ... we decided to call it a day ...
But the food part does not end there

We went for lunch at the Best Bak Moy - Hon Kee

followed by the Best Ice Kacang at New World Park
and then to call it a day ...

The Best Mee Goreng at Tanjung Bungah (yet to be reviewed in this blog)
Boy ... all done on a Beautiful Sunday!

Feel free to copy this agenda if you decide to go cycling round Heritage Penang :-)

Koay Teow Thing @ Seng Thor Coffee Shop

                                              Food Rating            :    3 stars

                                     Kopi O Rating         :    3 stars

Value for Money     :    3 stars
Ambience                :   Musty, Old Penang, 'a little dirty'

                                     Breakfast and Lunch
                                     Closed on Thursdays

Right at the junction of Kimberley Street and Carnavon Street, is yet another breakfast and lunch venue.  Very popular among locals, as it used to house the famous Lor Mee and Koay Teow Thing.  Foodie had a recent visit there ...

Besides the 'cooked by the bowl' ie. cooked 1 bowl at a time Koay Teow Thing ...
you have a choice of Lor Bak, yes, even at 8am in the morning ...
Lor Mee ... this one used to be very popular, still is among some locals ...

Good old Kopi O - 3 stars only very normal ... no extra punch ...
You can choose to have 'Bee Tai Bak' or whatever noodle combination you wish ...
The good thing about this stall is, since it is cooked one bowl at a time the soup is really hot and it feels really good to have it early in the morning especially on a rainy day :-)

continuation of the choices ... Hokkien Mee and also Nasi Lemak
suppose to be famous ... 1st runner up for The Penang Hawker Masters 2012
Foodie was too early to try it ... will give you an update ...

Best Pai Kut Bee Hoon / Ark Thui Mee Suah

 Breakfast only
Kopi O Rating       :       2/5
Pai Kut Bee Hoon :       5/5

Are you a Penangite ?
Do you send your car for service ?
Then you will know this place :-)
Best Vermicelli Herbal Duck Drum Soup in Penang.

Located at Jalan Sungai Pinang right in front of the Honda showroom.
This stall has been around for ages now and the quality of the food is super good.
I find the duck drum stick soup too oily.
However, you Must Try the pork ribs bee hoon soup, which is the BEST in Penang !

Besides this stall, there are many other stalls you can try ... curry mee, wan ton mee, nasi lemak is not too bad, loh bak etc ...
Just an additional tip ... place is not very clean and not well maintained by the coffee stall, don't sit near the large drain, you will puke before ya food comes, coffee lady is not friendly ...
A typical Penangite act ... I always order one Kopi O peng No sugar then I get a white coffee from the vending machine at the service centre and mix the two ...
really makes a difference to the coffee :-)

Whatever said ... if you have not tried this place, next time you send your car for service ... do check out the Pai Kut Bee Hoon, it is indeed heavenly ... best part is it is piping hot !

Thosai on A Vegetarian Day

This coffee shop was featured in one of my posts - "One of My Regular Local Breakfast Venue" http://www.penangfoodie.blogspot.com/2012/10/one-of-my-regular-local-breakfast-venue.html but today's write up is on the Thosai ...

So you could come here for two consecutive days to try the different selection.  As today is the 9 Emperor Gods Day, many non-vegetarian eating outlets will be closed so why not go for thosai.

The Friendly Boss

Husband and Wife team, working very well together, very organised and systematic, very clean too

Curry chicken with potato RM 3.00

Plain thosai RM 1.00, they have egg thosai as well, but I stick with the original

Apum is an add on RM 0.50 cents per piece
Foodie's Choice - Wait till they finish selling the ready made ones and then ask the auntie to make fresh one 'garing garing' - super crispy, well worth the wait
Mr Boss is so accommodating he even allows me to order 1 or 2 on days when I have already eaten other selection for my breakfast.

Foodie's Order - Thosai with Chicken Curry (RM 4.00) with Nasi Lemak (RM 1.20) and Kopi O (90 cents)

Coffee shop has nasi lemak, pao, cakes, half boil egg, kaya toast ... good range if you want something different.

Most of the time I will go for the koay teow thing and thosai.

Good ambience - clean and friendly, above average quality food, good selection and open most days .... one of the places that will never let you down on days when you know it will be difficult to find food, like today, also it is located on the way to work
