Yean Yean @ Tanjung Bungah - Cheap and Good

If you wish to have a regular place for home cooked food and don't want a hole in your pocket, this is the best place to be.
I would rank this as the Best Chu Char in Tanjung Bungah area with very reasonable charges.
Most of the dishes here are good.

 Selection is vast.
You can choose from the simple steam egg to the braised pork leg.

If you are in for a healthy choice, you can choose from a wide selection of vegetables and also you can have steam fish or curry fish.

For those who want to have some alcohol with you food, you can BYO :-)
And the prawn rolls go very well with your drinks...

With so many beautiful pictures, there really is little to say ...
A picture paints a thousand words, so if you are at this part of town, wish to have something simple, this is the place to be ...

Foodie Visits Alor Setar - Superb Curry Fish Head

If this place was in Penang, it would be on the 'Best In Penang' List for Curry Fish Head.
That's why it will be sin not to highlight it even though the title of this blog is Penang Street Food :-)
So if you are passing by Alor Setar for whatever reason, do visit this place for lunch.
Open daily from 10am to 3pm.
Here is the nearest I could find for directions.
Sorry guys, can't find the GPS co-ordinates
From the outside it looks like a big bungalow but once you get in, the ambience is nice with high ceiling, it is cool on a hot day even without air conditioning.

 Food selection is great
 Service is prompt and efficient
Look at the variety that Foodie has ordered
 Highly recommended - Foodie's Choice
Curry Fish Head with lots of Gravy
Lamb Curry
Roasted Brinjal
Curry Petai

This is the crunchy salted fish, freshly made and not too salty, yummy.
 Tau kua nicely done
The highly recommended fish head, comes in halves, we had 3 among the 5 of us who went.
That's not the end, we ordered 8 more to buy home for our loved ones back in Penang.
All the food on the table plus a total of 11 half fish heads costs about RM 330.
When it comes to Best On The List food - Foodie has an exception on the stringent price in terms of value for money - double standard why ...
Simply because rarely does - good food come cheap :-p

 more coming ...

 Very creative and unique sinks
Here is the exact address and contact number.

On the way back Foodie saw this Bah Kut Teh place.
Suppose to be a popular spot as well.
This will be the next venue for Foodie's next visit to Alor Setar ...
Have a great weekend folks and ...
Happy Eating :-)

Running Out of Lunch/Dinner Venues? Try Penang Swimming Club

At the 14th Level of Penang Swimming Club, there is a restaurant.
It is not super great but it is a good place to have a quick and decent bite.
The staff is friendly, but the trainees can be a little blur ...
It's ok.
The supervisor cum manager cum PR person Miss Jennifer is SUPERB!
Super helpful if you run out of ideas of what to eat.
Soft shell crab with salted eggs, Hokkien Char, Brinjal pot with salted fish, spring roll ...
Foodie's Choice:
Patong Fish Curry
Claypot Fish Head braised with Yam
Both the above is a must order :-)
Spring roll is pretty good too ...

One take home tip, Western food here is so-so ...
Foodie normally just go for the Chinese food here.
However, if you have a craving for Western food and is happy with sub-standard Western food then you can go ahead.
Dessert - Banana fritters with ice cream is super yummy, also another MUST order!
This is not a super duper must go place but if you have ran out of ideas, it is a rather nice place to go for a meal ... chit chat ... have a glass of wine ... relax ...
If you are not a member of the club, grab a friend who is and force your friend to buy you dinner or lunch !
Happy Weekend :-)

Hainan Cuisine @ Batu Ferringhi

And the feast continues ...
Located at Batu Ferringhi, a beautiful tourist spot, this is the place to go for Hainan food and fresh seafood.  This place used to be located at the Medan Selera at Baru Ferringhi, now it has moved to a better venue just next to Tarbush.

Spring roll is excellent and not too oily, crunchy and fresh

Fried belacan chicken a little on the dry side

This is a MUST order ... the Hokkien Char is super yummy
Also Foodie's Recommendation - Asam Curry Fish
Try the Pakistani Tea as a drink after dinner ... too sweet so ask for less sugar
Owner Mr Lim is very friendly.
Here is the location ...
Go before sunset you may catch a scenic view before dinner

And if you are lucky on Chinese New Year ... even Lion Dance on the house !
This is a sign of 'muhibbah' in the country... Different races involved in the Lion Dance industry :-)

This is the highly recommended fish curry ... a MUST
Sorry the photo does not look very appetizing but you have to try it to give it justice
